Variety of classes planned at Potsdam library over coming days

POTSDAM – The Potsdam Public Library has a variety of events and programs scheduled over the next couple weeks.

Children’s Programs

The library’s children’s programs are run and/or organized by our children’s librarian, Rebecca Donnelly. The programs are held in the mezzanine, the upstairs play space located at the back of the Potsdam Public Library. For more information email rdonnelly@potsdamlibrary.org or call 315-265-7230.

Curious Cubs Storytime will be held Wednesdays, Nov. 29 and Dec. 6 at 10:30 a.m. Stories, rhymes, and movement activities to build early literacy skills for ages 2 and older. Younger siblings are welcome.

The new Wiggly Worms Storytime will be Thursdays, Nov. 30 and Dec. 7 at 10:30 a.m. This is a storytime for the youngest library users. Rhymes, fingerplays, and fun for children up to age 2. Older siblings welcome.

Spanish Storytime will be held on Saturdays, Nov. 25 and Dec. 2, from 10-11 a.m. Practice Spanish with your family while enjoying songs, stories and a craft with Señora Elena. This program is geared toward birth to pre-school, however, all ages are welcome. No experience necessary.

Little Bees Family Storytime is scheduled for Saturdays, Nov. 25 and Dec. 2, from 11 a.m.-noon. Little Bees is a storytime for families with babies and toddlers with a story, rhymes and fingerplays, and plenty of play and socializing time.

Adult Programs

The course Designing Holiday Cards with Canva will be held Saturday, Nov. 25, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Cleveland Computer Center. Create your own holiday cards or newsletters and learn how to use Canva, a free online program, with your own messaging and images. All participants will be offered a discount to print their cards at The UPS Store in Potsdam. This is a drop-in class. Basic computer knowledge and an email address required. Tech In The Cleveland Center

All of the tech programs listed below are held in the Cleveland Computer Center, located in the basement of the Potsdam Public Library. Registration is required for all tech programs listed below by email or phone: bgordon@potsdamlibrary.org or call 315-265-7230.

A course on LinkedIn will be held Monday, Nov. 27, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Participants will learn to create/use a LinkedIn account, a business-oriented social networking tool, to find connections to recommended job candidates, industry experts and business partners. Useful for those seeking work or looking for qualified employees. Bring a laptop and a professional photo of yourself saved on the computer.

The workshop Troubleshooting Common Computer Problems will be held Monday, Nov. 27, from 3-4:30 p.m. Attendees will learn to diagnose the reasons for various computer problems and get simple solutions to fix them and discuss some basic information about computer hardware and software. Class will be taught using computers with Windows 10 operating system. Students must have knowledge of keyboard and mouse use and basic computer navigation skills.

Intermediate iPhone will be taught Tuesday, Nov. 28, from 3-4:30 p.m. Students should bring their phone to class to learn about its settings and the status/notification bar, app settings and management, accessibility and more.

An Excel Basics course will be held Wednesday, Nov. 29, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Students will set up basic spreadsheets, use basic formulas and print.

QuickBooks will be taught Nov. 28, 29 and 30, from 5:30-8 p.m. This 3-session class covers the basics of company set up, customer set up and billing, vendor set up and paying bills, overview of payroll set up, bank reconciliation and generating reports. Class fee of $75 covers all 3 sessions. To guarantee a seat, fee must have been received on or before Friday, Nov. 17.

Google Forms will be offered Friday, Dec. 1, from 9:30-11 a.m. Students will learn to create electronic forms, distribute them in a variety of ways, and record replies in a spreadsheet. Students must have a gmail account to participate.

Internet Safety will be taught Saturday, Dec. 2, from 1:30-3 p.m. Learn about hazards associated with surfing the web -- malware and ways to avoid it, preventative measures including anti-virus programs. Bring own laptop, but not required. Need familiarity with web browsers, downloading/installing programs.

Genealogy for Beginners is offered Monday, Dec. 4, from 1-2:30 p.m. This class will provide information to begin developing a family tree.

PowerPoint will be taught Monday, Dec. 4, from 3-4:30 p.m.

Intermediate iPad will be offered Tuesday, Dec. 5, from 9-10:30 a.m. Covering set up and use of iCloud Drive, using the app Store, Bluetooth connectivity, spotlight search, and using the control center. Will focus on ios 10.

Introduction to Android Phones will be taught Tuesday, Dec. 5, from 5:30-7 p.m. Class will cover basics of what your phone can do, how to use it as a source of information, your calendar, place for online banking, much more. Bring your android phone and your questions.

Introduction to Computers will be offered Wednesday, Dec. 6, from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Students will learn the basics of computers: creating files and folders, saving them, and copying from one document to another. Class taught using Windows 10 and MS Office 2010.
