HAMMOND -- The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary will host “About Boating Safely” Aug. 15-16 at Hammond Central School, 51 South Main St., from 5 to 9 p.m..
This course is required in New York State for anyone 14 years old and over who operates a personal watercraft (jet-ski). Motorboat operators born on or after May 1, 1996 must also have a boating safety certificate and be at least 10 years of age.
This will be the only class offered in Hammond this summer. Participants must attend both nights.
The certificate and laminated card is awarded at the end of the second night and is valid in New York State and all other states.
Classes are taught by Ogdensburg Auxiliary members who have years of experience teaching boating safety and interacting with students. Students will be able to see and check out various safety equipment items and will receive the course textbook and federal and state rule books to keep as references.
The cost is $35 per person with a family plan available. Register at Gardner's Furniture and Flooring at 315-393-6488 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.
