CANTON -- On Thursday, April 26 at noon, Milton C Sernett, Syracuse University professor emeritus, will give an illustrated presentation, “North Star Shining: New York State’s Freedom Trail – An Illustrated Journey Along the Underground Railroad” at the St. Lawrence County Historical Association, 3 East Main St.,

At 7 p.m., he will present “Harriet Tubman: Myth, Memory, and History” in St. Lawrence University’s Hepburn Hall, room 218.

Escaping slaves depended on the Underground Railroad and heroic helpers like Harriet Tubman to reach freedom.

Both talks are hosted by SLCHA and SLU’s History Department. Sernett has published eight books and numerous articles and essays, many dealing with American abolitionism, the Underground Railroad, and African American history.
