CANTON – Television producer, former luger and SUNY Canton alumnus Robert M. Hughes returns to Canton Friday, March 11 to talk about recording events such as the Olympics and World Equestrian Games.
The 1975 graduate is co-owner of Carr-Hughes Production in Saratoga Springs, a respected sports TV production company with a long history handling international television coverage for sporting events.
Hughes will speak at 2 p.m. in the Richard W. Miller Campus Center's Kingston Theater. The event is free and open to the public.
Hughes has worked with NBC and Universal Sports and produced footage for ESPN, and the Speed Channel. He and his company filmed the World Equestrian Games and was the host broadcaster for the 2011 Track and Field Championships.
"I set up everything to create the environment for every shot you see on TV as it is happening," Hughes said. "I manage more than 54 video cameras and work with a crew of about 100 people from around the world to create the footage for the Olympics."
Hughes was a competitive luge athlete after graduating from SUNY Canton. He went on to coach the 1984 U.S. Olympic luge team in Sarajevo before moving to television production.
