Tri-Town Festival continues with home run derby, pie-eating contest, pine car race

The Tri-Town Festival continues today with a homerun derby, eating contest and a pine car race for children.

This year the Tri-Town Festival committee’s theme for the event is Super Heroes and Villains. There will be a parade, a carnival, sports and fishing contests and live music.

Activities on Saturday will also feature a parade at 11 a.m., carnival with games and bounces houses from noon to 3 p.m. and an obstacle course geared toward children with disabilities.

The “Getting it Done Obstacle Challenge” will return Saturday from 9:30 to 11 a.m. The event is geared toward children with disabilities and people with wheelchairs, crutches and vision or hearing impairments are encouraged to participate.

A fishing derby, chicken barbeque and lawn mower races highlight events on Sunday.

All events will be held at the arena unless otherwise noted.

A list of the scheduled events follows:

Saturday, Aug. 2

8 a.m. - 5K Color Walk/Run for Autism (Arena Parking Lot) $20 registration fee. Proceeds benefit the Puzzle Piece Foundation. Sunglasses are required. To pre-register call 704-728-6309 or 704-728-2979

8 a.m.-6 p.m. - "Some Gave It All" Co-Ed Slow-Pitch Softball Tournament at North Lawrence Ball Fields. Team fee $150. Teams must have 7 guys and 3 girls. Info: 518-521-6030 or 518-643-1919.

9 a.m. - Frog Jumping Contest, inside arena, must bring own frog. Info: Rich/Katie at 389-5979.

9:30-11 a.m. - Getting It Done Obstacle Challenge geared toward children with disabilities. We welcome and accommodate for people with wheelchairs, crutches, hearing and sight impairments, as well as other challenges. Friendly, obstacle-style competition. Opportunity to encourage physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participation. Info: 250-1881 or 769-9129.

10 a.m. - Parade Line Up at St. Lawrence Central Elementary School. Info: 208-4030.

11 a.m. - "Superheroes and Villains Take Over Tri-Town Summer Festival" parade, route SLC to Agway. Info: Kristy 208-4030.

Noon-3 p.m. - Carnival featuring games, huge slide, bouncy house, face painting and more.

1-5 p.m. - Wine slushies by High Peaks Winery.

2 p.m. - Eating contests at Primabella's. Children 6 years and under ice cream eating contest; ages 7-13 years old pizza eating contest; 14 years and up hotdog eating contest. Cash prizes.

2 p.m. - Blindfold Bicycle Rally Youth and adult sizes available. Prizes. Info: 389-4223.

3 p.m. - TTMH Duck/Turtle Race (Behind Arena) Which swims faster: duck or turtle? $5/duck or turtle.

3-5 p.m. - Wine Tasting at Spirits of Downtown.

3-5 p.m. - Live Music by Tri-Town Entertainers at Crasper Hall Porch.

4 p.m. - Pine Car Race inside area. Registration at 3:45 p.m. Different age groups for K-8th grade. Info: 208-8003

4 p.m. - Adult kickball tourney at the arena ball field. Teams must be mixed gender. Info: 212-2939.

5 p.m. - Steak Dinner at Brasher-Winthrop Fire Dept.

6:30 p.m. - Class of '94 Reunion at American Legion.

8 p.m. - 6th annual Cory Jock Home Run Derby at the arena. Hit a home run under the lights. No age limits. Each batter will receive 5 good pitches. $5 efee for those over 18 yrs. Proceeds benefit SLC Baseball.

Sunday, Aug. 3

7:30 a.m.-noon - Breakfast at Lawrenceville Fire Dept. Info:389-4439.

8 a.m.-6 p.m. - "Some Gave It All" Co-Ed Slow-Pitch Softball Tournament at North Lawrence Ball Fields.

10-11 a.m. - Fishing derby at Tower Pond. No lures and must catch and release
