CANTON -- St. Lawrence University's Environmental Action Organization is planning "Trash On the Lawn Day” Tuesday, April 24, to raise awareness about the amount of trash generated in a typical day.
Members will collect all of the previous day's trash from Sullivan Student Center and dump it in a nearby outdoor space.
From 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 25, they will sort through what's collected, into categories such as compost, recycle, "plain old trash" and returnable.
Everything will be weighed and documented so that the numbers can be compared each year. After 4 p.m., everything will be cleaned up and removed to the proper facilities.
Also planned are "tours" of the event, where students will explain the various categories and how data is collected.
