MASSENA -- The Robert Moses Nature Center will host a cleanup, a wreath-making workshop and a woods walk during the coming weeks.

The fall cleanup will be Oct. 18 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., rain or shine. Volunteers of all ages are sought to assist with such tasks as winterizing gardens, cleaning out bird houses, trail cleanup, cutting back grown-in overlooks and more. Bring tools, if able. Snacks and refreshments will be available. Volunteers to prepare those are needed. If at least 10 Alcoa employees participate, the Nature Center is eligible for a $3,000 Alcoa Action Grant.

The same day as the cleanup, the Nature Center will host a workshop on making bittersweet wreaths from 1 to 3 p.m. The class is for teens and adults. Children need to be supervised by a parent. Bring gardening gloves and a cutting tool to harvest bittersweet vine. The Nature Center grows its own variety of the vine, which is not a protected species. The event is free and donations will be accepted.

The Halloween woods walk is slated for Oct. 25 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The guided moonlight hike is about 35 minutes long. A campfire will follow. Children can wear costumes and the first 30 will receive goody bags. Pre-registration: 705-5022.
