MADRID – The St. Lawrence Power & Equipment Museum will host its annual antique gas and steam engine exhibition June 13-14 with tractor pulls, miniature horses, country music concerts and food.

The exhibition will take place at 1755 State Highway 345 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Pure Country will entertain Saturday night from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m.

“With over 200 vendors and exhibits we expect a paid gate of over 1,000…we have never counted the children in the past but might do that this year,” according to St. Lawrence Power & Equipment Museum board member Roger Austin.

Hundreds of antique gas, steam, and diesel engines will be displayed along with farm tractors, cars and trucks.

“There will be vehicles there that most people have never seen before including carriages, an old funeral hearse, chemical wagons, and doctor buggies. People can see them all close up,” Austin said.

Other attractions include a maple sugar house, park train ride, woodcarving, auctions, horse-drawn equipment building featuring the Harden vehicle collection and the new antique tractor building.

There will be plenty to do including checking out farm animals in the barn, the chicken house, early textile demonstrations, a shoe repair shop and an old-fashioned general store. Raffles will be held.

“The general store will have items you would find at the turn of last century including scales, coffee grinders and cheese wheels,” he said.

Free horse and tractor wagon rides will be offered for young and old.

“Once you pay the admission fee everything except for food and beverages is free,” he said.

There will be an 1850 schoolhouse and a 1920s gas station set up.

“The schoolhouse has been renovated but features the original graffiti on the walls from the boys and peep holes on the walls,” Austin said.

Parades are slated for Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning and anyone with a tractor, horse or even a little red wagon is welcome to participate, Austin said.

The tractor and horse pulls, along with the kids pedal tractor race, are always big attractions at the event. Kids can race and enter the tractor pull for free.

“There is always so much excitement for races…you can tell the horses are ready to go,” he said.

Prizes and trophies will be awarded in all races.

Breakfast will be served both days from 7 until 10 a.m. with other concessions available all day. Baked goods and ice cream will also be available.

“This event is a wonderful atmosphere of old-fashioned excitement with a little something for everyone,” said St. Lawrence Power & Equipment Museum board member Roger Austin.

Saturday events include: 10-11 a.m., antique sawmill operating; 10-11:30 a.m., miniature horse pull; 10 a.m.-4 p.m., antique auto and truck exhibit; noon-1:30 p.m., draft horse pull; 12:30 p.m., tractor and horse parade; 1-2 p.m., antique sawmill operating; 1-2:30 p.m., kids pedal tractor races; 2-5 p.m., old iron auction; 2:30 p.m., garden tractor pull; 4:30-6:30 p.m., spaghetti supper, 6:30-8:30 p.m., live music by Pure Country.
