COLTON -- The Colton Museum on Main Street, which houses the Stone Valley Information Center, continues to be open this summer through Labor Day.

The Tin Men of Jim Hourihan are being featured at the museum.

Hourihan supervised work on powerhouses at Hewittville and Unionville for Germanetti Construction Associates.

After retiring he began making his Tin Men from scrapyard-bound materials for himself, family and friends. The statues range in size from quite large to miniature.

The museum which is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every day, features wall displays and racks with information about things to do, see, and experience in town and the area including the Stone Valley Cooperative Recreation Area (SVCRA), a popular destination for a mix of users including hikers who are on the trails all seasons of the year and whitewater kayakers who paddle the river.

Free brochures about Stone Valley including a map of the entire Recreation Area are available at the museum, thanks to the Laurentian Chapter of the Adirondack Mountain Club and Brookfield Renewable as SVCRA partners.

The museum is also displaying the traveling exhibit produced by Traditional Arts in Upstate New York (TAUNY) about hydroelectric dam building on the Raquette River along with some related artifacts and folk art.

The associated Raquette River Dam Stories exhibit catalog titled “Look Down, You’ll See our Tracks” is available to purchase for $5. It highlights stories and photos from people working on and affected by the building of dams.

Other products about the town and river including tee shirts, note cards, DVDs, books, and more also are available to purchase at the museum for reasonable prices.
