As many as 7,500 people are expected as the Potsdam and Norfolk volunteer fire departments host this year’s convention of the Northern New York Firemen’s Association Thursday to Saturday, June 6 through 8.
This will be the 117th NNYFA annual meeting.
Among the events planned are a golf tournament, a dinner at the West Potsdam Fire Hall, a Fireman of the Year presentation, and a memorial service.
Firefighters will stage a disaster drill, and will enjoy a “casino night” and dance at Pine Street Arena.
A big parade will take place in Potsdam Saturday morning, starting at Sisson Street and finishing on Elm Street.
And firefighters will convene in Norfolk Saturday afternoon for a firematics tournament.
Potsdam’s volunteers last hosted the convention in 1978. Norfolk has never hosted the convention before.
The firefighters are asking for the support of the business community to help with expenses through purchase of space in an advertising and coupon book they are preparing. Those who are interested may contact any Norfolk or Potsdam firefighter for more info, or call Ad Book Chair Jason Clark at (617) 312-8594.
