CANTON -- Quilter Mary Knapp will lead a day-long quilting workshop featuring a tessellating bird/fish pattern at TAUNY, 53 Main St., Saturday, April 30 at 9 a.m.
Tessellation patterns involve repeating interlocking shapes. Using contrasting colors and other techniques helps to make the designs pop and move. The workshop will cover design and production of an accent piece, a small wall hanging, or the start of a full-on quilt, depending on participants' desires and skill levels.
This class is a combination of easy piecing, gently flowing curves, and one challenging arc, so intermediate to advanced skills are needed. Participants need to bring a sewing machines and will be provided with an additional supply list. Cost is $55 or $50 for TAUNY Friends. Registration is required by calling 386-4289.
Knapp has been quilting for more than 35 years and uses math and science skills in the pursuit of her art. She is the author of "Star Quilts," a book of 35 blocks and five projects using easy, no-math drafting techniques, as well as numerous patterns and other publications.
