CANTON -- Taylor Park beach will open for the season at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 26.

This year, the park will be open beyond the usual beach hours, daily from dawn to dusk, to allow patrons to enjoy the picnic shelter, playground, volleyball court, basketball court, and ball field. Swimming is prohibited when there are no lifeguards on duty and the bathhouse will not be accessible after beach hours.

The beach will open for Memorial Day Weekend, May 26-28, and for weekends only June 2-3 and June 8-9 before opening daily beginning June 16. Open hours are 11 a.m.-7 p.m. weekdays and from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. on weekends. Weekday hours might be in effect for the first three weekends depending on lifeguard availability. Se the Canton Recreation Department Facebook page for updated hours.

Kayak rentals will be available during beach hours for $5 per hour. Inquire at the Lifeguard Building or call (315) 386-2581 for more information. Kayakers aged 13 and younger must be accompanied by an adult, and kayakers 17 and younger must have an adult sign a permission form.

A paddling Clinic will be offered as a Summer Recreation Program this summer from July 16-19 for those looking to improve their paddling skills.

The picnic shelter at Taylor Park is also available to rent for parties, family reunions, and other events. More info: recreation@cantonny.us or (315) 386-3992.

The park is sporting some Park this summer. The swim area will feature a new dock system thanks to a generous grant from the Grasseroots Fund, and a new basketball hoop will be installed thanks to a grant from the Canton Community Fund.

And a Frisbee golf course will be set up each Wednesday during beach hours. Frisbee discs, volleyballs, and basketballs will be available from the Lifeguard Building during beach hours.
