CANTON -- Tom Van de Water will lead the second of TAUNY’s Green Walks on Thursday, May 31, at 4 p.m. on Canton’s Falls Island.
The walk will begin at the information kiosk near the Falls Island parking lot (located between the Grasse River bridges on West Main Street).
A teacher of earth science and environmental science at Canton High School, Tom Van de Water tracked coyotes with John Green in 1979 and studied botany with him in 1982. He taught conservation studies at Sterling College, and coordinated geography labs at St. Lawrence University. He works summers for the U.S. Forest Service in Idaho’s Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness and is working on a natural history of the Grasse River.
The Green Walks are nature walks offered in honor and memory of long-time TAUNY friend, naturalist, and conservation biologist John Green. They are led by local experts who had close personal and professional connections with him.
Supported by gifts made to TAUNY in memory of Green, the Green Walks are free and open to all. Pre-registration for the walks is not required but would be appreciated for planning purposes (386-4289/ programs@tauny.org).
