CANTON – For some wintertime fun, TAUNY is planning a contest and exhibit to showcase two popular North Country winter traditions: knitting and wood carving. Carvin’ Critters and Knittin’ Mittens will open in February during Canton’s Winterfest, and all are invited to enter a pair of adult-sized mittens or a carving of a North Country animal in the contest.
All entries will be part of the exhibit.
The mittens must be knit from natural fibers and will be judged in four categories: best color work, best texture, best example of a traditional technique, and most whimsical or fun design.
The (non human!) animal carvings can be no larger than eight inches cubed, and will be judged in three categories: realistic, stylized, and caricature. They must be carved with hand tools and use a clear finish to show the woodwork.
Contest rules, guidelines, and deadlines are posted on www.TAUNY.org. For more information contact 386-4289/info@tauny.org.
