TAUNY nature walks in Canton, Potsdam this spring to honor naturalist John Green

Long-time TAUNY friend and naturalist John Green will be honored with a series of outdoor “Green Walks” led by local experts who had a close connection with John.

•On Saturday, May 19, at 9:30 a.m., Tom Langen, will lead a walk in the Clarkson Forest that will focus on wetlands. Tom is an associate professor of biology at Clarkson University.

•Tom Van de Water will lead a walk on Falls Island in Canton on Thursday, May 31, at 4 p.m. Tom teaches earth science and environmental science at Canton High School

•Biologists Erika Barthelmess and Carol Budd will lead a walk on SLU’s Kip Tract, one of John’s favorite local trails, on Saturday, June 9, at 9:30 a.m. Erika, who teaches biology at St. Lawrence. Carol is the past director of the Collegiate Science and Technology Program at SLU.

•The final Green Walk will take place Saturday, June 16, at 9:30 a.m. at Indian Creek Nature Center. Led by biologist Wil Rivers, the walk will focus on plant succession.
