CANTON – TAUNY's First Thursday for Kids program continues in on Feb. 3 with a unique opportunity for children to create a piece of art from recycled iron from 3:45 to 5:15 p.m. at The TAUNY Center, 53 Main St.
Wayne Brown will help young artists create one-of-a-kind sculptures from antique, recycled iron such as agricultural implements and railroad spikes. He will talk with the children about the creative process, showing them how to look for animals, faces, or abstract arrangements in pieces of metal whose unique shapes come from their particular usages.
Brown will weld the sculptures at his workshop in Heuvelton, and the final products will be ready for pick-up at TAUNY one week after the workshop.
The cost of the sculpture workshop is $15 for TAUNY members and $20 for non-members. Class size is limited and pre-registration is required by calling or emailing TAUNY Folklorist Hannah Harvester at 386-4289/hannah@tauny.org.
