POTSDAM -- For the second year, SUNY Potsdam athletes will participate in “Swimming for Soldiers” swim-a-thon Sunday, March 29.
The event is hosted and run by Potsdam's Athletic Leadership Council, but representatives of all 16 Bears teams will swim on Sunday.
Each of Potsdam's teams has been collecting pledge money and donations at Barrington Student Union. All of the money goes to the campus organization SUNY Potsdam Operation Military Support Group.
The group puts together care packages that include hygiene products, magazines, nonperishable food items and keepsakes to send to servicemen and women.
The packages are targeted for those military personnel who attended Potsdam-area schools or with a connection to the area.
Last year's swim-a-thon raised approximately $2,000.
