CANTON -- Learn to control one of area’s most economically damaging invasive plant, swallow-wort.
Swallow-wort is aggressive and fast-moving, forming dense monocultures that prevent forest regeneration, take over hay fields and Christmas tree plantations and choke out hiking trails. It also destroys or severely alters sensitive habitats such as the limestone alvars along eastern Lake Ontario.
Learn how to identify and control this noxious weed with the St. Lawrence Land Trust and Paul Hetzler of Cornell Cooperative Extension on Saturday Aug. 29 from 9-11 a.m. along the banks of the Grasse River at 605 Miner Street Road in Canton.
The workshop is free and open to the public, but registration is necessary. To register, or for more information, call Wil Rivers at 854-0184, or email riversw@canton.edu.
