POTSDAM -- SUNY Potsdam’s Community Performance Series will continue Feb. 23 with the Berlin Philharmonic Wind Quintet.
The quinet will appear in Hosmer Hall at 3 p.m. to share their music, which the Washington Post has described as “not to be forgotten.”
The quintet's performance will include Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Fantasie in F-Minor, KV 608," as well as Kalevi Aho's "Kvintetto." The concert will also feature Samuel Barber's "Summer Music, Op. 3" and Carl Nielsen's "Quintet, Op. 43."
Founded in 1988, the group was the first permanently established wind quintet in the orchestra’s chamber music tradition, according to the quintet’s website.
The Manchester Evening News describes the quintet as "arguably the best ensemble of its kind in the world," with "impeccable precision ... extraordinary unity," and "uncanny one-ness."
The quintet’s music covers “the entire spectrum of wind quintet literature,” as well as works for larger ensembles, according to the website.
