POTSDAM -- The SUNY Potsdam Fall Basketball Coaches Clinic will be held Sunday, Nov. 6 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Jerry Welsh Gymnasium at Maxcy Hall.

The clinic is open to basketball coaches of all levels.

Jim Bechtel, Head Men's Basketball Coach at SUNY Potsdam, will conduct the clinic with the Bears men's and women's players on hand to demonstrate on the court for the clinicians.

"We have a great line-up of coaches with championship experience at every level of basketball," said Bechtel.

"With the season just around the corner, it will be a tremendous opportunity to learn new strategies and share information heading into practice," he added.

Bechtel, who built one of NCAA Division III's top ranked defenses during his tenure at SUNY Canton, will lead off the clinic with a 10 a.m. session titled "Building a Defensive Culture."

Tom Curle, Head Men's Coach at SUNY Plattsburgh, will present "Don't Give Up on Low Post Play" at 11 a.m. Coach Curle's cagers have won six SUNYAC championships and appeared in seven NCAA tournaments. He will detail a key component to the Cardinals' consistent success, which is an annual emphasis on low post play.

Ali Boolani, President/CEO of Focus Performance LLC, will discuss "Using Sport Science to Improve Basketball Performance" at noon. Ali has coached and worked with NBA, NBA-DL, Euroleague, NCAA Division I, NAIA and NFL teams as a sports science consultant.

Brittany Cohen, Head Women's Coach at SUNY Potsdam, will present "Efficient Player Development" at 1:30 p.m. The new Bears women's coach spent the past season as a player development intern with the NBA's Dallas Mavericks and will share concepts for skill workouts used at basketball's highest level.

Bobby McKenney, Boys Varsity Coach at Bishop Grimes High School, will cover "Building Successful Basketball Programs"at 2:30 p.m. The legendary Syracuse area high school coach has led three high school programs to multiple league, sectional and state titles. He'll share his thoughts on a flexible system that adjusts to players' strengths.

Jeff Gorski, Head Men's Basketball Coach at Clarkson University will run the clinic "Effective Half-Court Execution: Sets and Motion Offense" at 3:30 p.m.

In his three years at Clarkson, Coach Gorski's teams have become known for their constant player and ball movement that lead to high percentage shots. This session will cover set plays and motion offense.

Coaches can sign up individually or attend as a staff. The cost is $65 per coach or $250 for a staff of up up to five coaches. Lunch is included with the clinic.

On-site registration and pre-registered check-in will open at 8:30 a.m.
