POTSDAM -- A memorial service celebrating the life and legacy of longtime radio news director Scott Dosztan will be held at Dunn Theater, SUNY Potsdam, Saturday, Jan. 31 from 3 to 5 p.m.

Following a lifetime of service to his community, the late WPDM Radio news director has now been approved to receive a posthumous degree, after his sudden death on Jan. 7 at the age of 44.

SUNY Potsdam President Kristin G. Esterberg will award Dosztan's bachelor of arts degree at the service on Saturday. His longtime partner, and now fellow SUNY Potsdam alumnus, Mitch Bresett, will accept the degree.

Friends, colleagues and loved ones will be invited to share their memories at the service. In addition, the brothers of the Prometheus Fraternity will offer a special presentation in Dosztan's honor at the service.

The journalist will also be honored with another special distinction during the ceremony. The Potsdam Humane Society will unveil a plaque that will soon be mounted in the animal shelter, naming its cat rooms in memory of Dosztan, who was a longtime volunteer and supporter.

A graduate of Lowville Academy, Dosztan attended SUNY Potsdam where he was a member of the class of 1992 and a brother of the Prometheus fraternity. Though he never completed his undergraduate degree, he is fondly remembered by many classmates and friends, both at the college and throughout the North Country.

After beginning his career in radio at WBRV – WLLG in Lowville, Dosztan went on to work for B99, WPDM and WSNN Radio in Potsdam from 1990 until 1993, prior to working at stations in Plattsburgh and Gloversville. In 2000, Scott returned to WPDM, where he was news director at the time of his death.

Dunn Theater is located in Dunn Hall, which is off of Barrington Drive. Parking will be available in lots 1, 11 and 12. Visitors can find campus maps at www.potsdam.edu/about/visit/maps.cfm.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Potsdam Humane Society, 17 Madrid Ave., Potsdam, NY 13676, by calling 265-3199 or by visiting www.potsdamhumanesociety.org. Note that donations are being made in memory of Scott Dosztan.
