CANTON -- SUNY Canton will host Camp Invention, a summer program emphasizing science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) for students entering grades 1-6.

The weeklong day camp will run 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. July 25-29 in the college's Richard W. Miller Campus Center.

To celebrate upcoming day camp, SUNY Canton President Zvi Szafran will present a free chemistry magic show at 1 p.m. Monday, July 18, at the Canton Free Library, 8 Park St.

The Camp Invention curriculum is redesigned every year. Children will have access to several projects including: Building cricket-inspired inventions to outsmart motorized spider predators, designing an "Epic Park" with zip lines and water flumes, using motors, gears, lights, fans and components found in broken machines to make their own innovations and exploring demolitions, coding, squid, slime and sound-activated lights.

The program is $220 per student. Families enrolling two children receive $25 off per child. Families registering three or more children will save $50 per child. Special rates are available for children of SUNY Canton employees.
