CANTON -- The SUNY Canton College Foundation will host two alumni speakers who focus on the medical and health professions during the month of September.

Myrna Thomas, a 1979 graduate and the vice president for quality assurance and regulatory affairs at Accupac Inc. will be presenting at noon, Thursday, Sept. 14, in the Richard W. Miller Campus Center Room 214.

Accupac fills and packages a wide range of over-the-counter and prescription products for the world's largest pharmaceutical companies.

Prior to her current position, Thomas held senior management positions at Merck as managing director of worldwide clinical data management and vice president of global quality operations at Isolagen, among other positions.

Jeffrey Place, a 1980 graduate and the vice president of centralized nursing services at Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas, will be presenting at 4 p.m. Monday, Sept 18, in Wicks Hall Room 102.

After graduating with a degree in nursing, Place moved to Texas to begin his career in a neurological intensive care unit, and later served as nursing supervisor and clinical manager of the intensive care and critical care units.

He then took a position with Baylor University Medical Center as the administrative supervisor, and completed his bachelor's and two master's degrees.

Place has served as a mentor to various students seeking leadership roles in nursing.

The Excellence in Leadership Lecture Series connects working professional alumni who are experts in their fields with current SUNY Canton students.

The program is funded by Corning Incorporated Foundation and presented by the College Foundation and the SUNY Canton President's Office.

These events are free and open to the public.
