COLTON -- The Sunday Rock Legacy Project will present the Broadway musical “Working” July 20 and 21, at 7 p.m., and July 23, at 2 p.m., at the Old Colton Fire Station, 89 Riverside Drive.

The play is based on interviews conducted by American author, historian, actor, broadcaster and Pulitzer Prize winner Studs Terkel with songs written by a variety of composers including James Taylor, Mary (daughter of Richard) Rodgers and Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton).

The Grass River Players theatre troupe, an SRLP partner organization, is using a flatbed trailer courtesy of Ron Watson for its stage. An antique fire truck also will be part of the set.

This past fall when the SRLP Steering Committee for the Sunday Rock Legacy Project was planning the annual summer musical for 2017 they learned its regular venue, the auditorium at Colton-Pierrepont Central School, would be undergoing renovations. The committee selected the Old Colton Fire Station on Riverside Drive across the street from the new one.

With John Larrance and Jim Wildman handling lights and sound, the Old Fire Station will be transformed into “a fun and funky performance space,” said a SLRP press release.

Cast members have already begun rehearsals on the trailer, said the press release.

Tickets are now available at three outlets, The TAUNY Center, 53 Main St., Canton; Brick & Mortar Music, 5 Market St., Potsdam; and at the Colton Museum/Stone Valley Information Center at 95 Main Street in Colton.

General admission tickets are $10 each, and student tickets are $5. In advance of the show there is a 10 percent discount on the purchase of 10 or more tickets at all ticket outlets. Tickets are half price with the purchase of a commemorative shirt at the Colton Museum. Also at the museum, the purchase of a J.N. Swift and Sons milk bottle for $50 comes with two tickets to the show.

The SRLP, now in its sixth year, continues to bring three local institutions and organizations together -- the Colton Historical Society, Grasse River Players, and Colton-Pierrepont Central School -- to pursue historical, theatrical, and educational activities of interest under a unifying theme. The 2017 theme, “All Geared Up,” focuses on the history of businesses and the hard-working people in town.
