OGDENSBURG -- A suicide prevention and intervention initiative kick-off event will be held at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center Auditorium, 214 King St., Wednesday, May 15 from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m.
The kick-off is intended to increase awareness and to inform the community about the goals of the initiative.
The Kick-off event is a collaborative initiative comprised of the CNY Behavioral Health Organization (BHO)/Magellan Behavioral Health Services, the New York State Office of Mental Health, the New York State Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services and the St. Lawrence County behavioral health community.
Kristin Woodlock, acting commissioner of the NY State Office of Mental Health and Michael Hogan, commissioner emeritus, NY State Office of Mental Health, will speak.
In 2010, over 38,000 individuals died by suicide in the United States. In St. Lawrence County there were seven completed suicides in 2007 and 16 completed suicides in 2011.
