POTSDAM -- The sixth Suicide Awareness Walk organized by the SUNY Potsdam Counseling Center will be held Sept. 23, from noon-2 p.m.
In May of 2007, two people in the SUNY Potsdam community died by suicide and ever since, the family of student Jeffrey Kimball, has joined with the SUNY Potsdam Counseling Center to provide more suicide prevention training and programs for the community, said a press release from the center.
This walk is the center's largest event to advocate for this issue and provide support for all those affected by suicide, the release said. Several clubs and organizations from local campuses, Greek life, students, staff, faculty, and community members from St. Lawrence County join for this event each year.
Registration for the walk begins at 11 a.m. The event is free. Walkers will have several ways to honor loved ones during the event, from honor beads to tie-dying their walk shirts.
Organizers are hoping to register more than 300 participants this year.
