Succession planning for forest landowners workshop is Saturday in Canton

CANTON -- A one-day succession planning for forest landowners workshop is planned for Sept. 13 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Cornell Cooperative Extension Learning farm classroom, 2043B State Highway 68.

Dr. Shorna Allred, an expert on land succession planning, as well as other speakers, will present on succession planning, the human side of estate planning, focusing on the key challenges faced by family forest owners.

The class will detail the communication and legal planning tools needed to maintain family ties to the land. Landowners will learn about effective tools families can use to direct the future of their land.

Includes discussion and Q&A with Lynn Fountain, a local tax attorney, and Tom Langen, president of the St. Lawrence Land Trust.

Registration is $20, which includes lunch and extensive take-home resource materials.
