CANTON -- St. Lawrence University’s Richard F. Brush Art Gallery will host a graduating student art exhibition display from April 29 to June 4 in the Griffiths Arts Center. Admission is free and open to the public.
The exhibition, “(Dis)comfort Zone,” represents the capstone project for seniors graduating from the Department of Art and Art History.
“It embodies their diverse interests and experiences, their dreams and aspirations, as well as their fears and anxieties,” said Melissa Schulenberg, associate professor of art and art history. “Artmaking has become a way to find a comfort zone during the students’ time at St. Lawrence, allowing them to express and explore ideas in the company of others, while at the same time presenting an opportunity to confront and understand discomforts and difficulties.”
Students could work in any media for the exhibition, including drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture and mixed media. As part of the seminar, students were taught the practical aspects of being an artist, such as exhibition design and planning, installation, publicity and documentation.
An opening reception will be held at 5 p.m. Friday, April 29. For more information, contact 229-5174 or visit www.stlawu.edu/gallery.
