Everyone is invited to enjoy the beauty of winter in Star Lake, Cranberry Lake, and Wanakena, in the towns of Clifton and Fine at the Adirondack White Out Weekend tonight through Sunday.
It begins tonight with the opening of the festival’s photo contest, at Otto’s Adobe in Wanakena until 7 p.m., with live music, a bonfire and refreshments, all for free. Nearby at the Pone Cone Grill there will be a whiskey and appetizer tasting with specialty cocktails and a bonfire.
While a couple of events have been cancelled due to the predicted severe cold, Saturday in Star Lake and Wanakena you will still have to dress warmly for many events, including the black powder winter shoot at the Clifton-Fine Rifle and Pistol Range. Registration starts at 9 a.m.; winners announced at 5 p.m.
The Winter of Wonders Children’s Event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., will be indoors at Clifton-Fine School in Star Lake, with an art project, zoo presentations and much more. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
There will be curling from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Clifton-Fine Arena, with an exhibition hockey game at 2 p.m. there by the SUNY ESF Ranger School.
There is lots more Saturday, and a full schedule Sunday, including ice skating, an ice rescue demonstration, raptors, sled dogs, snowmobiling, snowshoeing and skiing.
White Out Weekend buttons and shirts will be available.
Admission is free, but contributions of canned goods will be gratefully accepted.
