St. Lawrence Valley Paddlers club sets Wednesday evening get-togethers in Canton

CANTON -- Members of the St. Lawrence Valley Paddlers club get together Wednesday evenings at the Little River Bridge on County Rt. 27 just east of Canton at 5 p.m.

There enthusiasts gather to paddle on the gently flowing Little River, and to help out newcomers to the sport Wednesdays April through September.

Afterwards, there is companionship in the parking lot and, if you like, pizza at Sergis’ or Sylvia’s, two of the 58 sponsors of Canton Canoe Weekend May 3-5.

The annual Little River Ramble is set for April 21.

In the meantime the Canton Canoe Weekend FaceBook Contests continue. Susan Dodds won a free entry at the races by correctly answering last week’s contest in a record 12 minutes from posting. Her answer to “Who always gets a free entry at any Canton Event?” she found on the Canton page at slvpaddlers.org. The answer is any Wounded Warrior.

There are reasonable fees for any Canoe Weekend participant. Entry fees help pay for the event t-shirt that everyone receives, event insurance, prizes and incidental expenses. The fees for children and school age students is $5, college students $10, adults $20, for the Rushton Tour $10, the Rushton Relay $15, and those who serve or served in the military receive a $5 discount.

The members of the all-volunteer Canton Canoe Weekend Committee say they are gratified with the support of this year’s sponsors. This week, the posters advertising the events will start appearing as will banners.

Full information on the weekend and the whole season can be found at the St. Lawrence Valley Paddlers’ website slvpaddlers.org or by contacting Chuck at 244-3712
