CANTON -- The St. Lawrence Valley Paddlers Association opens their 2015 season with the Little River Ramble on Sunday, April 26.
That is all a prelude to this year’s big event during Canton Canoe Weekend May 2-3, the 54th annual Rushton Memorial Races.
The winding Little River, which snakes its way behind St. Lawrence University before emptying into the Grasse River near Miner Street, will carry several classes of paddlecraft and racers along two-mile and six-mile courses in events that start at 1 p.m.
Registration begins at noon.
The start and finish line is at the boat launch, Park Street Bridge.
The cost is $20 for adults, $15 cub members, $5 youth and free for college students.
Classes will be decided on race day. Recreation races include: men's, mixed, adult/junior, unlimited open and college classes. Other races are the C-1 and C-1 open and stock open, K-1 (kayak) men's and women's, and war canoe. No pro class and there will be a separate college class.
