CANTON -- St. Lawrence University's University Chorus has rescheduled its campus performance for 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 1, in Peterson-Kermani Performance Hall.

The concert, which is free and open to the public, was originally scheduled for April 14 but was canceled due to poor weather.

The chorus will pay tribute to great songs from the golden age of cinema spanning from 1930 to 1965 in a program titled “Movie Night.”

Sung in choral arrangements and as solo songs, University Chorus will perform hits made famous by Judy Garland (“Over the Rainbow," "Trolly Song" and "Zing Went the Strings of My Heart”), Fred Astaire (“They Can’t Take That Away from Me,” “Puttin’ on the Ritz” and “Easter Parade”) Frank Sinatra (“High Hopes” and “Serenade in Blue”) Bing Crosby (“White Christmas” and “Swingin’ on a Star”) Gene Kelly (“Singing in the Rain”), The Andrews Sisters (“Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy”), Andy Williams (“Moon River”) and others.

Accompanist Max Howard will be featured in jazz renditions of some of these songs.

University Chorus performed the program on Friday, April 13, at Pickens Hall in Heuvelton.

As Canton’s community chorus, University Chorus brings together the vocal talents of students, faculty and staff, and community members.

Directed by Barry Torres, they perform a varied repertoire in theme-oriented concerts, often with instrumental accompaniment, in the best tradition of American community choral singing.
