CANTON -- The St. Lawrence University Writers Series will host author and poet Lillian-Yvonne Bertram at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 4, in the Sykes Common Room. Admission is free.

Bertram, who is currently serving as St. Lawrence University’s Viebranz Visiting Professor of Creative Writing, is the author of But a Storm is Blowing from Paradise (Red Hen Press 2012), selected by Claudia Rankine as winner of the 2010 Benjamin Saltman Award.

She has been in residence at the Vermont Studio Center and the Montana Artists’ Refuge, has received fellowships from Cave Canem and the Bread Loaf School of English, and is the recipient of a United States Embassy grant for a writing residency in Latvia.

Two more books are forthcoming: a slice from the cake made of air from Red Hen Press, and personal science from Tupelo Press. Bertram is also a recipient of a 2014 National Endowment for the Arts Poetry Fellowship.

The Writer’s Series is sponsored by St. Lawrence’s Department of English. Info: 229-5125.
