The St. Lawrence University Laurentian Singers will perform Christmas concerts Dec. 6-7. The Dec. 6 concert will be held at the Russell Opera House, 4 Pestle St., at 7:30 p.m. The Dec. 7 concert will be at Peterson-Kermani Performance Hall, 23 Romoda Dr. at 4 p.m.
The program will contrast carols and motets on the varied themes of Christmas, featuring two contrasting settings of "O Magnum Mysterium” by Tomas Luis de Victoria and a contemporary setting by Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo featuring a cello solo played by Michael Ranellone.
Other motets will include a setting of the genealogy of Jesus from the gospel of Luke by Estonian composer Arvo Part titled “Which Was the Son of…” and Canadian composer Healy Willan’s moving “The Three Kings.”
Interspersed among the motets will be arrangements of carols from the famous Carols for Choirs series.
A carol sing-along will follow, which will include such favorites as “Angels We Have Heard on High," "O Come Emmanuel,” "What Child is This," "Silver Bells,” "Do You Hear What I Hear," "O Holy Night," and "Adeste Fidelis (O Come all ye Faithful)."
