CANTON — St. Lawrence University’s Department of Music will host Steven Brennfleck as the Gretchen Bence Young Artist in Residence for 2014.
Brennfleck will be on campus from Jan. 28 through Feb. 2, visiting classes and chorus rehearsals, teaching a master class and performing a recital.
Brennfleck will teach a vocal master class at St. Lawrence University beginning at 3:30 p.m., Feb. 1. At 2 p.m., Feb. 2, he will perform in recital on campus. Both events will take place in the Peterson-Kermani Performance Hall, Griffiths Arts Center, and both events are free and open to the public.
For his recital program, Brennfleck has chosen Franz Schubert’s "Die Schöne Müllerin” ("The Fair Miller-Maid"). In this sequence of 20 songs, Schubert leads the audience intimately into the heart and mind of a young miller, as he falls ecstatically in and tragically out of love.
Barbara Phillips-Farley, instructional specialist in music, will accompany him on piano during the recital.
