CANTON -- A two-hour training session for planning boards, zoning boards of appeal and anyone else interested in the New York Mined Lands and Reclamation Act is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 18 at 6:30 p.m. in the Griffiths Art Center at St. Lawrence University.
Staff from the state Department of Environmental Conservation and the St. Lawrence County Planning Office will explain the law and how local boards can be involved in issuing a DEC mining permit.
“When the Act went into effect, the law superseded local land use regulations. We want to make sure local boards understand the DEC’s permitting process” said St. Lawrence County Deputy Planning Director Jason C. Pfotenhauer. “Our goal is to help local boards understand when the mining law applies and how local governments can participate in the DEC’s review of a mining application.”
This event represents the county planning office's year-end training session and will satisfy two of the annual four required training hours for planning and zoning board members.
There is a $25 fee.
