CANTON, -- St. Lawrence University’s Department of Environmental Studies will host a discussion by journalist and energy analyst Mason Inman in Carnegie Hall at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 19.
Inman is an award-winning journalist who has written for Science, Nature, Scientific American and National Geographic News, covering climate and energy issues for the past several years.
His first book, "The Oracle of Oil: A Maverick Geologist's Quest for a Sustainable Future,"was published in April by W.W. Norton and was the first biography of geologist M. King Hubbert, known as “the father of peak oil.”
Inman will discuss how fracking led to a drilling boom that has dramatically increased U.S. oil production and whether fracking spread worldwide could help usher in an era of plenty of oil at relatively cheap prices.
The event is free and open to the public.
