CANTON – St. Lawrence University will host a funk concert Nov. 12 to raise money for the Red Rose School in Kenya.
St. Lawrence University’s Laurentian Singers have taken an annual group trip to Kenya where students have studied abroad since 1974.
In preparation for the trip, the University’s Leadership Honor Society, Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK), planned to host the fund-raising event to raise money for the school in Kenya.
The trip has been postponed due to the Westgate Mall attack in September in Nairobi, Kenya.
“We were going to visit the Red Rose School and meet Mr. Okoth, who was also a former Laurentian Singer himself,” said Allison Baier, ODK president.
While the trip might have been put on hold, the benefit concert will go on as planned.
“We wanted to raise money for Ken’s school and specifically for musical instruments for the students,” Baier said
The concert will take place at 8 p.m. in Eben Holden, 23 Romoda Dr.
Proceeds will be used to buy basic school supplies and musical instruments for the students at the Red Rose School.
Donations will be accepted at the door.
