St. Lawrence University to host family fun weekend Oct. 4

CANTON -- St. Lawrence University’s Family Weekend will take place Oct. 4-6 featuring musical performances, sporting events, faculty lectures, student presentations, art exhibitions, and more.

President William L. Fox ’75 and members of the senior staff will share some remarks with students and parents on the University and then invite a conversation at 10 a.m. Saturday in Eben Holden.

Bring your cats, dogs, or other animals to be blessed in honor of St. Francis of Assisi on his feast day at 4 p.m. Friday on the Quad. Free snacks for both humans and pets will be provided.

The Richard F. Brush Art Gallery is featuring three exhibitions on Adirondack arts and crafts from noon to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Selected members of the Class of 2015 will be inducted into the Omicron Delta Kappa national leadership society at 4 p.m. Friday in the Sullivan Student Center’s Hannon Room 332.

At 4:30 p.m. Friday in Eben Holden, academic honorary organizations will hold an Honors Reception to celebrate the accomplishments of its members. SLU Fellows, McNair Scholars, Center for International and Intercultural Studies Fellows and O’Brien First-Year Seminar Research Prize winners will have poster presentations on their summer research projects.

The Laurentian Singers will perform from 7:30 to 8:15 p.m. Friday and Saturday in the Griffiths Art Center’s Peterson-Kermani Performance Hall.

A celebration of the Music of Africa will be presented by North Country Public Radio and Afropop Worldwide and will take place Oct. 5 from 7:30 to 11p.m. in Sullivan Student Center's Winston Room. It will include presentations, a reception and a dance party.

Learn to make applesauce and tour the new Sustainability House, the site of St. Lawrence’s Sustainability Semester, starting at 1 p.m. Saturday on Route 68, about five miles south of campus.

Watch the Lady Saints take on Clarkson University in Women’s Hockey at 3 p.m. Saturday in Appleton Arena.

Family Weekend incorporates events taking place the same weekend in the Village of Canton as part of the Remington Arts Festival, including an art sale and a 5k run/walk.
