CANTON -- St. Lawrence University’s Department of Economics Visiting Speaker Series in Political Economy will host Antony Davies, associate professor of economics at Duquesne University.
He will speak at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 4 in the Hepburn Hall auditorium.
In his lecture, “Liberty, Equality, and Prosperity,” Davies will look at the practical effects of economic freedom.
“He will present evidence that across countries, states, cities and time, societies with more economic freedom (on average) have higher standards of living, less unemployment, less poverty, less income inequality, less gender inequality, less child labor and cleaner environments,” a news release from SLU said. “His discussion also will have significant relevance to the Nobel Prize awarded in October to British economist Angus Deaton, professor of economics and international affairs at the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs and the Economics Department at Princeton University.”
The lecture is free and open to the public.
Refreshments will be served.
