“Kick Butts Day” will be held March 20. “Kick Butts Day” is a chance for St. Lawrence County youth to speak out against tobacco use.
The event is organized by the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids as a nation wide youth activism event. More than 1,000 events will take place in schools and communities across the country and around the world.
North Country events will highlight issues such as flavored tobacco products, new tobacco retailers and tobacco advertising in stores frequented by youth.
According to the Surgeon General’s 2012 report “Preventing Tobacco Use Among Youth and Young Adults,” tobacco use is a “pediatric epidemic” and is caused, in part, by tobacco industry marketing.
If you work with a youth group and would like to take part in a Kick Butts Day event, contact the St. Lawrence County Tobacco Free Community Partnership at 229-3432.
