CANTON – St. Lawrence County leaders are urging residents to sign up for and attend a free special training session to learn how to be prepared for natural disasters and emergencies.
A New York State Preparedness Corps workshop will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 5 in the SUNY Canton Roos House.
The session will offer the tools and resources citizens need to prepare for any type of disaster, respond accordingly and recover as quickly as possible. The event will teach attendees the best practices for ice storms, extended power outages and other emergencies.
The aim, said St. Lawrence County legislative chairman Jonathan Putney is to “have the best response possible in an emergency.”
Putney said residents and county employees responded well to the ice storm in December. But he encouraged area residents to attend Saturday’s workshop because “it’s better to be prepared for everyone’s safety.”

The event is co-sponsored by state Sen. Patty Ritchie, Assemblywoman Addie Russell and Putney.
