POTSDAM -- The St. Lawrence County League of Women Voters will hold a fall member and friend raiser event in the town hall community room on Elm Street starting at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 4. League members, friends and interested people are welcome to attend. There is off street parking and the building is handicapped accessible. Light refreshments will be served.

River District Assemblywoman Addie Jenne will be the guest speaker. She will present a summary of the 2017 Legislative session followed by a question and answer discussion about public policy issues of concern to county residents.

“This will be a lively and positive discussion of League priorities and policy prior to the fall electoral season. It is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the work of the League as we celebrate 100 years women’s suffrage here in New York State in 2017,” said league president Kathleen Stein, Canton.

There will be copies of league brochures and “The Citizen Lobbyist,” which helps state residents make their voices heard on policy issues.

There will also be copies of the League’s Voter Guides Part 1 and Part 2 which are useful guides on how to register to vote, the major state and national candidates and their positions, and information for Election Day. They are a compliment to the extensive information available on the League’s Vote411 website: http://www.vote411.org/.

The SLC League of Women Voters is one of the civic partners for North Country Matters, the local public affairs video magazine.

Each fall, NCM shows include “Conversations with Candidates,” a voter education series designed to introduce voters to some of the candidates running for public office that year.

The Fall 2017 Conversations will feature the candidates in the county district attorney race and the Canton town supervisor race.
