CANTON -- While the Civil War was taking place on far-away battlefields, life in North Country homes and farms went on. One such farm was that of the Wilders, boyhood home of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s husband, Almanzo, and the setting for the biographical novel Farmer Boy.
Carlton Stickney, Stockholm town historian and member of the St. Lawrence County Historical Association board, will speak on the topic of household items in the Wilder Farm’s collection at the next North Country Civil War Round Table on Sunday, March 20, 2 p.m. at the SLCHA at the Silas Wright House, 3 East Main St.
Stickney will share a number of objects made and used during the time of the Civil War, such as kitchen implements, lighting devices, and a pendulum spinning wheel.
Visitors who own items with Civil War provenance are encouraged to bring them to the event for a “show and tell” session, before the discussion of the Wilder Farm artifacts.
