CANTON -- Residents from around the county are invited to join in on the annual St. Lawrence County Dairy Princess Parade and Festival June 1 and 2.

One of Canton’s premiere events, the festival will feature variety of entertainment including a block party, car show, musical performances, Big Wheels Race and fireworks.

Events begin Friday with the Big Wheels Race at 6 p.m. Children ages 4 to 6 will compete for trophies and medals. A $1 charge will be collected upon registration.

Police will block Pine St. to Main St. beginning at 5:15 p.m. to allow for the race as well as the John Deere Days Block Dance. The block party is sponsored by LeBerge and Curtis and will follow the race, beginning at 8 p.m.

Local band, Classic Country, will provide music with some help from special guest Donnie Woodcock, a three-time New York State Champion Fiddler.

A cruise-in car show, sponsored by Boyden Brook Body Works, will be featured throughout the duration of both events.

Saturday the festival continues in the park with dairy displays, crafts, clowns and concessions beginning at 10 a.m. Visitors will have a chance to enjoy the fair-style market as the prepare for the parade.

At 1 p.m. the parade begins at Canton Village Park led by Dairy Princess Allison Fobare, of Waddington and her court.

This year, the Brockville Pipe Band will be participating in the march, along with a variety of local organizations and politicians.

A music festival will be held at Canton High School from 3 to 7 p.m. followed by a fireworks display at 9:30 p.m., sponsored by TJ Toyota, North Country Savings Bank and the town of Canton. Refreshments will be served by the Canton Golden Bear Booster Club.

Organizers say the fireworks are expected to be better than ever.
