CANTON -- Local internships are the topic of this month’s free webinar from the St. Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce, to be held Wednesday, Feb. 10, from noon to 1 p.m.
Margo Jenkins, the assistant director for internship and co-op programs at Clarkson University Career Center will guide businesses through the opportunity to host an intern.
“It is so important to utilize our talented student population from the county's five colleges,” said chamber Director Brooke Rouse. “This is an incredible resource that can hugely impact the productivity of local businesses. There are regulations associated with having an intern, which is why we are hosting this webinar - we want businesses to have the information so that they can pursue the opportunity.”
Jenkins will discuss the requirements of an employer, the differences between an internship and a co-op, the benefits of hiring a student intern, how to start an internship position and make it a positive experience for the employer and student and how to post and recruit students from area colleges. There will be time for individual questions and answers.
The webinar is offered for free. Register at www.NorthCountryGuide.com or on the chamber's Facebook page. Participants need a computer, internet and a speaker.
