MASSENA -- National Kids to Parks Day is May 17. To celebrate the event, Friends of the Robert Moses State Park Nature Center is hosting a spring trail cleanup activity for kids and teaching about geometry in nature.
Massena's Jr. Earth Keepers Club is spearheading the national event locally at the Robert Moses State Park Nature Center.
Following the spring clean-up, kids will go on a guided hike exploring the trails in search of geometry in nature. Each will try to find items that vary in shape, from ovals to triangles to squares. After returning from the hike, they will group their findings by shape and document them with digital cameras. The photos will be uploaded onto the Jr Earth Keeper Facebook page.
Participants should meet at the trailhead at the Nature Center by 1 p.m. and dress for weather.
Children should be five to 12 years old and have an interest in nature and outdoor activity.
