NORWOOD – Snowmobiles that travel at very high speeds across water and require special skills to operate return to Norwood Saturday, Sept. 11 and Sunday, Sept. 12 when Eastern Watercross Association racers compete at Norwood Beach at the Norwood Lake Regatta, Lakeshore Road.

Races begin at 11 a.m. with gates open at 9 a.m. There is plenty of free parking, and attendants will ensure parking that allows easy entry and exit.

Price of admission is $5 for the pro and semi-pro oval racing in the 600 and 800 class.

The snowmobile races bring to our area many visitors who enjoy the many vendors, crafts, food and legal beverages served in the covered arena at Norwood beach.

The Norwood Lake Association schedules all events, and many volunteers work very hard to ensure a pleasant, safe, exciting day.

Vendors may reserve space in the arena for the admission price of $5 by calling Elaine at 353-7321.

Amateur snowmobile racers are welcome, and after instruction from the professionals, will be allowed to participate as time allows. It is suggested amateurs arrive at the beach early and meet with race officials. Information is available by calling Jim at 353-2834.

Profits from the regatta are used to improve the many recreational facilities available in our community, address water quality issues as they arise, stage an event that has a positive effect on local businesses, operate the Norwood Recycling Center, which is operated each Saturday by volunteers who accept 75 percent of household waste at no charge, and contribute to other community building projects.
