Snow sculpting, igloo building, dog sled rides planned Feb. 26-27 at Clarkson University's 'Cold Out Gold Out'

POTSDAM -- Clarkson will host a winter carnival Feb. 26 and 27 “Cold Out Gold Out” which includes snow sculpting, igloo building, dog sled rides and alumni hockey games.

“Clarkson is reviving an old tradition with a new twist,” said Teresa Plant, director of Alumni Relations. “In years past, the Clarkson Ice Carnival used to be one of the most anticipated celebrations of the year for area residents.”

Activities include a pep rally, snow sculpting, igloo building, dog sled rides, an outdoor skating rink, and alumni hockey games.

On Friday dinner and drinks will be available at the ice bar in a heated tent on Cheel lawn from 5 to 7 p.m. Open skating will be held on an outdoor rink on Cheel lawn. The men’s hockey team takes on Harvard at 7 p.m. An alumni mixer is set for 10 p.m. at Maxfields in downtown Potsdam.

Enjoy outdoor fun Saturday on Cheel lawn from 11 a.m. to noon at the outdoor rink and participate in snow building projects at noon. Lunch will be served from noon until 2 p.m. in the tent. An alumni hockey game starts at 1 p.m. on the outdoor rink and there will be dog sled rides from 1:30 to 3:30 and an ice carver demo at 2 p.m.

Also on Saturday an ice bar will be open from 2 until 7 p.m., open skating is set for 4 to 5 p.m. and 9 to 10 p.m. Dinner will be served from 4 to 6 p.m. in the tent. A pep rally and snow sculpture winners will be announced at 5:45 p.m. The men’s hockey team will play Dartmouth at 7 p.m.

An “Ice Bash” wraps up the carnival at 9:45 p.m. There will be food and drinks. A fireworks display is set for 10 p.m.
