MASSENA -- St. Lawrence Centre Mall will host a snow sculpting competition as part of the Greater Massena Chamber of Commerce Winter Carnival.
Teams will be given a 4’ by 4’ by 4’ or 4’ by 4’ by 8’ block of snow to create their sculptures. Teams may begin sculpting Friday, Jan. 25 at 10 a.m. and work through Saturday, Jan. 26 at 9 p.m. Judging will be Sunday, Jan. 27 at noon.
Sculptures must be made entirely of snow, ice or water. Only hand tools, such as scrapers, shovels, ice rakes, trowels, chicken wire and saws may be used, with no power tools, coloring agents or support structures allowed.
Judging will be based on creativity (50 percent), technique (30 percent) and message (20 percent). There will also be a people’s choice award, which will be chosen based on the visitors’ votes.
Teams must register by Monday, Jan. 21 and must have one to three members.
Teams may register for the competition at www.stlawrencecentremall.com/?q=node/87.
